Leon Claire Metz (1930-2020) remains a celebrated American cultural historian, penning over 19 books. In 1991, he co-founded Travel The Pass with Sylvia Gevália Landeros, a sociocultural marketing researcher/MMD, to explore, publish, and film the borderland history of the Texas, New Mexico, and Mexico region. Metz authored his first book, John Selman, Texas Gunfighter, in 1966; was appointed as the Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy’s first archivist at the Special Collections Dept. in 1967 (UTEP); he received the Texas Historical Commission Ruth Lester Lifetime Achievement Award and the Saddleman Award from Western Writers of America; and he hosted hundreds of acclaimed print & broadcast sectors, etc., etc.
