Leon Claire Metz (1930-2020) remains a celebrated American cultural historian, penning over 19 books. In 1991, he co-founded Travel The Pass© with Sylvia Gevália Landeros, socio-cultural marketing researcher/MMD, to explore, publish, and film the borderland history of Texas, New Mexico, and Mexico. Travel The Pass©, creator/publisher of MADZINE©, has established a distinguished legacy in chronicling and preserving the cultural heritage of the Borderland, recognized through numerous prestigious awards and endorsements. Presently, efforts are in place to have El Paso’s downtown library named after Metz; this initiative aims to honor Leon Metz’s significant impact on the community and his dedication to preserving the region’s history—Metz authored his first book, John Selman, Texas Gunfighter, in 1966; was appointed as the Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy’s first archivist at the Special Collections Dept. in 1967 (UTEP); he received the Texas Historical Commission Ruth Lester Lifetime Achievement Award and the Saddleman Award from Western Writers of America; and he hosted hundreds of acclaimed print & broadcast sectors, etc., etc.

TRAVEL THE PASS©, creator/publisher of MADZINE©, has established a respected foundation dedicated to chronicling the heritage of the tristate Borderland region through academic initiatives and the integration of STEM projects under Sylvia Gevália Landeros' direction. Travel The Pass© pioneered the integration of the region’s film and interactive connections in e-books and developed the first regional/binational Edu-TV Welcome Channel, fostering cross-border communication and collaboration. Additionally, Landeros launched the region’s first International Tourism Moving-Billboard Campaign, capturing attention across USA, Canada, and Mexico highways.
In 2008, Sylvia Gevália Landeros created and published The Southwest Chronicle©, the borderlands’ first Tri-State Newspapers In Education Bilingual Journal, which portrayed works by her mentor Leon Metz; in 2017, she developed the Big Bang Mag©, the borderland’s first academic publication focused on bridging the gap between the humanities and science, establishing the necessary precedent for her pre-generated work, MADZINE© 2024.
Sylvia Gevália Landeros’ socio-cultural marketing research/MMD strategies have achieved recognition for Travel The Pass© from a spectrum of regional, national, and international organizations, including the State of New Mexico Tourism Dept., the Texas Historical Commission (Metz received the Ruth Lester Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010), the El Paso Chamber of Commerce, la Secretaría de Desarrollo Económico del Estado de Chihuahua, among other commendations, and in 2024, the City of El Paso, Texas, issued a proclamation honoring our accomplishments and introduced our latest initiative, MADZINE Cowboyz & Cosmoz : Complete Works of Leon Metz-The Official Borderland Souvenir©, which is under the editorial direction and creation of Landeros.
In 2025, the U.S. Dept. of Education Children and Youth Program/McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act Education Service Center-19, acknowledged Sylvia Gevália Landeros’ community assistance, as did IHG Army Hotels, located at Fort Bliss Military Base. Additionally, her social-cultural marketing research/MMD skills have successfully led local Judicial District Court candidates into winning campaigns, and she humbly continues to provide faith-filled organizations like Our Lady of Guadalupe Monastery in Silver City, New Mexico, with pro bono marketing—and as of 2008, Landeros integrated Sponsorship Grant Funding directly into Travel The Pass’s work, allowing businesses of all sizes to participate in its distinctive initiatives, thus strengthening the organization’s ability to host inclusive community events for marginalized audiences.
